ChatGPT, Midjourney & Tuna Music Creator
Youth4Youth is committed to giving students the most topical knowledge and skills that they will need to thrive in our future world. With this in mind, Youth4Youth acknowledged the recent uproar surrounding ChatGPT and other online chatbots.
This week at ESF South Island School, the students explored Midjourney, a text-to-image AI on Discord which creates images based on text prompts that are written to it. Students also learnt about artificial intelligence and algorithms as well as how Midjourney works by using a machine learning algorithm that has been trained on a database of image data to create original images. Diffusion models are transformer-based generative models that can add noise to an image until it becomes unrecognisably noisy. When the software tries to restore the image to its original state, it learns how to create images in the process.
Students were able to learn about ChatGPT and contribute to group discussions about how this chatbot would affect different sectors as well as stakeholders within the school community such as teachers and students. We taught the students about the technologies used when creating ChatGPT which included supervised and reinforcement learning strategies.
Our last activity for this week's session was exploring Tuna Music Creator, a software that uses a mixture of input suggestions and song themes or styles to make unique songs. This was a lot of fun and a very creative way to end our learning on chatbots!
This was a very relevant session with the advancements that are currently happening with the development of ChatGPT!
